Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, the students should be able to scientifically approach the basic principles of human behavior. The students should be able to:

Distinguish between the various research methods in psychology.
Differentiate between biological contributions and environmental influences with regard to behavior.
Differentiate among varieties of abnormal behavior and evaluate various therapeutic approaches in dealing with abnormal behavior.
Distinguish between the various personality theories and personality assessment techniques.
Demonstrate an understanding of social influences on behavior.
Apply basic psychological concepts to one's life, e.g., emotions, motivation, memory, learning, sensation and perception, states of consciousness.

Critical thinking is an integral part of this course. At the instructor's discretion, critical thinking may be incorporated in any of the following formats:  individual and/or group oral presentations, written assignments, or computer-generated critical thinking activities.
