Students registering for the online CRNs (66689 or 66690) would be neighbor island students, completing service learning hours on their own at approved sites. Out-of-state students should not register for this class, as instructor is unable to accommodate an option of field day requirements. The aforementioned CRNs are taught concurrently.

Service-learning (SL) and community engagement link classroom curriculum to ‘āina-based and culturally appropriate education with hands-on experiential learning opportunities. SL connects real world problem-based learning with a focus on career pathways in order to match the needs of community partners and leads to student success. The SL course designation offers students high quality service learning experiences in their courses with a minimum of 15 hours of service in community, and 5 hours of reflection and/or writing connecting the service with the course curriculum.
