(UH Transfer Information)

Chinese Language & Literature (CHN)

All students registered for CHN 102, 202, 302, 305, and 402 must attend the first class meeting. Failure to do so without prior consent of the instructor or department advisor may result in the assignment of your space to another student and require you to drop the class to avoid a grade of "F."

Students with prior experience in the language are required to take a placement test (for more information, contact Mr. Todd Ashida: 956-2066, tashida@hawaii.edu). Students who are placed in 102 or higher level may complete the language requirement faster and also earn back-credits (up to 16 credits, which can be counted toward graduation. Restrictions apply: see the Manoa Back Credit Policy). Students starting from 101 will recieve no back-credits. A placement adjustment made in the first week of class does not guarantee a seat in the course appropriate for the student.

Language requirement can be fufilled by taking the main track courses (CHN 101-202) or CHN 105-205 that cover four skills.
